Atmore is a city located in Escambia County, Alabama, and as of 2007 its population was roughly 7,400. This city was named after C.P. Atmore, who worked with the Louisville and Nashville Railroad, and before becoming a city Atmore was known for being a stop along the Mobile and Great Northern Railroad. It is also the headquarters for the Poarch Band of Creek Indians, and they celebrate with an annual Pow-Wow and Thanksgiving dinner each November. The weather in this city is categorized as a mild subtropical climate with humid and hot summers and mild winters.
Atmore is home to a variety of attractions that may appeal to residents and visitors. Arguably the most notable tourist attraction in this area is the Wind Creek Casino and Hotel. Golf enthusiasts may enjoy playing a round at the Atmore Country Club. Additionally, the warm climate of this region makes Atmore an excellent place for outdoor recreation, and options include Tom Byrne Park, Little River State Forest, and the Magnolia Branch Wild Life Reserve.
